Counterchange Effects

The two circled areas in Mission Bouquet show identical value and color in both areas. Yet in the building’s eaves at the left, the values seem lighter where seen against the darker distant trees and darker against the light-value sky. For effect, you can exaggerate these types of contrasts if you like. (This counterchange can also be seen on the previous page in Sentinels, where there are both light and dark backgrounds behind the sculptures.)
